This might not be the kind of computer I worked on when I first studied computers , but the way it was used was almost the same thing. I remember needing an MS - DOS floppy disk to start the computer. I remember that we had to memorize the commands and type them so that the computer will work. There is no other option but to memorize the commands! All the files were saved in the floppy disk and if that disk failed, then all the documents you worked hard for to finish, was gone. There was no way you can back them up in your computer.

Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively impose domination over others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual.(wikipedia) It includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. According to studies, kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues. Kids who are bullied experience the following
It takes time for a child who is being bullied to talk about what he is going through. It takes a while before they ask for help and by the time they do, bullying has gotten worse. I think it is important that a bully knows how it feels like to be bullied. They should be made aware of the consequences of their actions. While searching for lesson for cyber bullying, I came across this video. A child made a rap song about how he felt when he was being bullied. Watch please! Most of the time students ask why they need to study Trigonometry, Geometry and other Math related subjects. Here is one video that will show how we use them in real life! :) Have you ever experienced forgetting your USB Flash Drive and you need a file that you saved in it? Isn't it also such a hassle when you cannot retrieve a file that you need. Don't you also feel bad when you forget to save the files in your flash drives and you did not bring your computer with you. Well, Drew Houston, the founder of Dropbox had a solution to that. He created the DROPBOX which is a special folder in your computer where you can put your saved files. That folder is automatically synced and you can access it anywhere you are as long as you have internet connection. You can even share your file to other people even if they do not have a DROPBOX account. All you have to do is send them the link and they can download the files already. There is even the DROPBOX apps available for our smart phone. To install DROPBOX in your computers, click the following link. DOWNLOAD DROPBOX " Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder (with the same contents) regardless of which computer is used to view it. Files placed in this folder also are accessible through a website and mobile phone applications . "
When the iPad was first introduced, I only thought of it as a gaming tool. I saw that there were educational games that the children can play with, but I find the games to be too easy and limited. However, while Apple was improving the iPad's features, they also worked on developing more Apps to suit the needs of iPad users. Today, these users vary from toddlers, to school children, to professionals. They use iPad for communication, for work, for recreation and most importantly, for learning. As a technology teacher, I am glad to know that iPads are being used in the classrooms to provide students with the opportunity to learn interactively. It is not our traditional way of learning but several researches have proven that the use of iPads have helped improve children's learning. Children are more engaged when they are asked to do the tasks in the iPad due to the various Apps that have been developed which cater to the educational needs. Unfortunately, we are not using the iPad's in the classroom yet. I know that most of my students (if not ALL of them) have iPads and iPhones which they use at home. I am also aware that they only use it for playing games. I think parents should maximize the use of the tablets that they give their children by downloading apps which are not only fun but educational as well. We should all be wise in choosing the apps we download and play with. Below are some links to websites which gives information about FREE educational apps that parents and students can download. Last Monday, I was on my way home. My car was on full stop while I was waiting for the traffic to clear out when another car hit mine from behind. My car turned around thrice and then hit another car. When my car stopped turning I was so shocked and I was not even able to move for a few minutes. I was in shock because I could see the car that hit me was badly damaged and my first concern was "Is the driver okey? ". Thankfully, she was. I removed my seatbelt, went out of the car and looked at the damage. There wasn't much damage to the car but the tire was blasted. But what I am most thankful for is that I was wearing a seatbelt. Although I have always worn a seatbelt, I never really knew how important it is until I had that accident. I realized that if I wasn't wearing one, I could have been thrown out of the car or my head could have hit the steering wheel. A lot worst could have happened to me if I chose not to wear the seatbelt. Although I have bruises and welts from the seatbelt, a lot worse could have happened if I wasn't wearing one. So always remember kids to ALWAYS WEAR A SEATBELT when you are in a car. Another school year has begun and I am looking forward to a year full of fun and learning. This year, we have Ms. Manar to assist us with our needs in the computer lab. We also have new educational CD's. There are a lot of new activities awaiting all grade levels so let's all look forward to this school year!
Last January, the Grade 5 students started creating their websites. They were so excited to create their own site! Like last year, my students are using Weebly since it has more security and moderation features. Students found it easier to design their site since Design options are available. Adding elements is not a problem since students only have to drag and drop them on the page that they are working on .
Organizing the Pages is a different matter, though. Since my students were so excited at first, some of them added a lot of pages and were overwhelmed with them. In the end, I had to tell them to delete some pages. Since we do not have the luxury of time to compose the information they need for their site, I allowed them to copy and paste information from the internet, provided they site their reference and create a link. It is really amazing to see my students work so hard to improve and make their sites look better! Too see their sites, click on the tab STUDENTS" SITES ! :) HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Welcome back to school and I hope everyone enjoyed our well deserved vacation! Let's look forward to the new year with possi I know that about 95% of my students have Facebook accounts. Social networking sites are great tools but the privacy settings worry me. Here is an article that might help!
http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/111929/stealth-mode-making-yourself-nearly-invisible-on-facebook A: Facebook, as you're well aware by this point, has a history of privacy scandals. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is constantly trying to push what privacy means in the 21st century — how transparent should we all be on the Internet? — but with each step, a significant number of users push back. Last week, Facebook announced on its Developers blog that it was making it possible for third-party applications to gain access to users' mobile phone numbers and addresses. By early Monday morning the Facebook team had dialed back the change until further notice. Some of the privacy issues have been just too much for users, resulting in cancelled accounts. But more and more organizations are joining the Facebook Connect network and incorporating the site's development tools into their own. It's getting to the point where you're at a disadvantage if you don't have a Facebook account; you can use it to log in with the same username and password on more than two million sites — it's not just for checking in on your cousin's newest baby pictures. So, here's the trick: You can go nearly invisible on Facebook — nobody will be able to view your photographs, see your activity or where you've checked in except for existing friends — but still have an account to use around the web. If you're ready to move into Facebook stealth mode, follow these simple steps: • Visit Facebook.com, log in to your profile and click 'Account' in the top-right corner. From there, choose 'Privacy Settings.' • From the 'Privacy Settings' page, click on 'View Settings' to see who can search for you, send messages to your account, see your education and work settings and more. Change all of these drop-down menus to 'Friends Only.' • Return to the 'Privacy Settings' page and choose 'Customize Settings' near the bottom of the page. This new page will load a number of different privacy options, but you'll want to click through each one and change the setting to 'Only Me' so that nobody else can see your Facebook activity. • Stay on the 'Customize Settings' page and scroll down to 'Things Others Share.' Here, you'll want to edit and disable settings so that your friends are unable to write on your wall, comment on posts and check you in to places. • Return to the 'Privacy Settings' page and, under 'Apps and Websites' in the bottom-left corner, select 'Edit Your Settings.' This page shows all of the third-party websites and applications that you have given access to some of your Facebook information. If you see anything on this list that you want to remove, just click to remove it from the list. • Stay on the 'Apps and Websites' page, scroll down to 'Instant Personalization' and select 'Edit Settings.' Uncheck the box at the bottom of this page to block other websites from accessing your Facebook interests. Select 'Confirm' when a pop-up asks you if you're sure you want to disable this option. • Return to the 'Apps and Websites' page, scroll down to 'Public Search' and select 'Edit Settings.' To keep search engines from finding your Facebook profile, uncheck the box on this new screen. |
