When the iPad was first introduced, I only thought of it as a gaming tool. I saw that there were educational games that the children can play with, but I find the games to be too easy and limited. However, while Apple was improving the iPad's features, they also worked on developing more Apps to suit the needs of iPad users. Today, these users vary from toddlers, to school children, to professionals. They use iPad for communication, for work, for recreation and most importantly, for learning.
As a technology teacher, I am glad to know that iPads are being used in the classrooms to provide students with the opportunity to learn interactively. It is not our traditional way of learning but several researches have proven that the use of iPads have helped improve children's learning. Children are more engaged when they are asked to do the tasks in the iPad due to the various Apps that have been developed which cater to the educational needs.
Unfortunately, we are not using the iPad's in the classroom yet. I know that most of my students (if not ALL of them) have iPads and iPhones which they use at home. I am also aware that they only use it for playing games. I think parents should maximize the use of the tablets that they give their children by downloading apps which are not only fun but educational as well. We should all be wise in choosing the apps we download and play with. Below are some links to websites which gives information about FREE educational apps that parents and students can download.
